The Megaware SkegGuard is an inexpensive solution to replace or repair a broken or damaged skeg. You can install a SkegGuard on a new or broken skeg with as little as 2-3 inches of the upper skeg remaining. Easily slide the SkegGuard over the skeg, tap it into place and install the mounting hardware. No welding is needed. Each kit comes with self-locking mounting hardware and hex wrenches. Megaware SkegGuard Engineering
The Megaware SkegGuard conforms to the skeg, ensuring no discernable drag or compromise in the performance of your motor. The SkegGuard is manufactured using 18 gauge marine-grade 316 stainless steel that can withstand damage and abrasion from rocks and debris. The design features a 3mm thick lower wear plate to protect against accidental ramp dragging and a drain hole to allow water and fluids to escape preventing corrosion and freezing.

The SkegGuard’s mirror-polished finish creates a customized look and compliments the overall appearance of your boat and motor.

Megaware SkegGuard is available for most outboard and Inboard/Outboard (I/O) or Sterndrive engines, including Evinrude, Johnson, Honda, Mercury, Mercruiser, Mariner, Nissan, OMC, Tohatsu, Suzuki, Volvo, and Yamaha.

SkegGuard Installation
Installation is a straightforward 4 step process and takes less than 10 minutes. Additional items needed for the installation are gloves, a mallet (leather, rubber, or wooden), and a 1/4″ drill bit and drill.

Caution: Always wear gloves to prevent injury from cuts when working with this product.

Step 1) Determine Skeg Fitment
Ensure proper fit before installing the Megaware SkegGuard. There must be at least 2-3 inches of upper skeg remaining to secure the SkegGuard. If any portion of the skeg has been bent or distorted, it must be re-conformed to the original shape.

Visually check the fit of the SkegGuard by holding it up against your skeg. Keep in mind that some models are universal and may not mirror your skeg’s exact shape and size. Some models may overhang slightly or not fully extend up to the lower gearcase.

Step 2) Prep your Skeg
File any spurs or jagged edges smooth so the SkegGuard can easily slide over the existing skeg. Some lower units may have a reinforced wear tab at the lower end or bottom of the skeg. The wear tab will need to be filed flush with the skeg to provide a proper fit. If desired, prime and paint the exposed portion of the skeg before installing the SkegGuard.

Step 3) Tap the SkegGuard into Place
Using a mallet (leather, rubber, or wooden), slide the SkegGuard onto the skeg and gently tap on it to get it started. Then drive it on with the mallet until it is fully seated.

Step 4) Install the Hardware
Using the pre-drilled mounting holes on the SkegGuard as pilot holes, drill into the skeg using a 1/4″ drill bit. Install the stainless steel self-locking hardware using the hex tools provided in the product package. The hardware is dipped in a thread locker to prevent the bolts from coming loose.

Precautionary Statement: Megaware SkegGuard is not designed to prevent damage in the event of a collision impact with stationary objects. The product is designed to prevent and reduce wear, and the amount of damage encountered while hitting minor floating objects or submerged stumps and rocks. It can also serve as a replacement to a broken skeg, providing at least 2-3 inches of the upper skeg to attach and secure.
